Super Mario Run is a side-scrolling auto-running platformer video game developed and published by Nintendo for iOS and Android devices. It is out for iOS, and is slated for release in 2017.
I have played Super Mario when I was younger. Due to my not-so-competent motor reflex skills, I found it to be a very hard game. So when this game was released, I was expecting it to be something of the same calibre. What I was presented with… was something different.
The game is not too big, a mere 341mb on my iPhone 7. Graphics look smooth, and the models are well detailed. The sound effects are the same ones from the old Mario games, so longtime fans can experience some nostalgia from that.
The controls are not difficult, Mario automatically runs towards the right, and the player just has to press a button to make Mario jump. Holding the jump makes it jump higher. Tapping again in the air enables him to spin in the air. Timing your jump when Mario automatically vaults over an enemy makes him do a trick in the air. Overall, gameplay is nice and smooth, and was actually enjoyable at times.
