Didn’t get tickets to this year’s National Day Parade? Fret not – this year’s National Day Parade (NDP 2017) will be livestreamed in 360° VR at full 4K resolution via YouTube! You’ll be able to join the audience in singing our beloved national day songs and watch the performers strut their stuff close up, right from the comfort of your home. If things get a little boring, you can switch between three cameras angles, covering the promenade, platform stage, and seating gallery at The Marina Bay Floating Platform. Sounds cool? Well, it gets even cooler.
For the first time ever, viewers can witness the military segments of the parade from our troops’ point of views in 360° VR. You’ll be able to virtually join the Red Lions and Naval Divers in their sky/seadives, take a ride on the Army’s engineer vehicles and the Navy’s inflatable boats, join our home team forces in repelling a simulated terrorist attack – and of course, get an awesome view of the fireworks finale!
We had a sneak preview of the pre-recorded military dynamic displays in VR, and we have to say that it’s one of the most interesting attractions that the NDP 2017 team has ever come up with. Because the cameras are mounted on the performer’s helmets and vehicles, it feels like you’re seeing the action from the eyes of the performers themselves and are literally part of the performance team. Don’t take our word for it: check out the trailers below. How To Watch NDP 2017 online? The video above pretty much sums it up! It’s simple – just go to the NDP 2017 official YouTube channel, tune into the live stream at around 5:40pm and enjoy. Those with VR headsets such as Google Cardboard and the Samsung Gear VR can toggle on VR mode while in the YouTube app to enjoy the action. Those without VR headsets can still experience the fun – users on desktop computers and smartphones can use their mice or fingers to navigate their view when watching the 360-degree livestream. Still, we highly recommend getting a VR headset for the optimal experience as it beats viewing the livestream from a screen hands down. Users can purchase a Google Cardboard compatible headset or a Samsung Gear VR pretty easily from Lazada and other online retailers, or gadget shops such as Mobyshop or other retailers at Sim Lim Square.
