Apple Changes Up Its Products - New iPad, New Red iPhone 7 and 7 Plus amongst other things22/3/2017 By Philip C. Apple has updated its lineup, including a new iPad model, a new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus option, new colours for Apple Watch, increased storage options for the popular SE, and a new social video sharing app. In this article, we will be going through these new toys that Apple has dropped on us, so if you want to know all about the latest updates from Apple, read on! The New iPad There is a new iPad, and its called, quite simply, the iPad. The iPad replaces the old iPad Air 2, and while the specs remain similar to the iPad Air 2, the old A8X chip has been replaced with a snazzy new 64 bit A9 chip, meaning better performance for this new model. The price of the iPad has also dropped when compared to the older model, going at SGD$498 for a 32GB Wi-Fi model, compared to the old SGD$568 32GB Wi-Fi iPad Air 2. The new iPad does have some places that is a downgrade from the iPad Air 2 though. Firstly, the Rose Gold colour option is gone, making it only available for iPad Pro models. Its case is slightly larger than the iPad Air 2, being 7.5mm thick instead of 6.1mm thick, and 469 grams (Wi-Fi only) instead of 437 grams. The height and width remain the same. The Red iPhone 7 and 7 Plus Apple has introduced a new colour option for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. As the brainchild of Apple’s partnership with (RED), Apple has introduced a new red finish for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Although there were previously red phone cases for the iPhone, this is the first time that the phone itself is available in red. The new (RED) iPhone features a red aluminium finish, together with a white front. “The introduction of this special edition iPhone in a gorgeous red finish is our biggest (PRODUCT)RED offering to date in celebration of our partnership with (RED), and we can’t wait to get it into customers’ hands," says Apple CEO Tim Cook. Apple's partnership with (RED) involves highlighting the AIDS fundraising campaign with red-themed designs for products and apps. Apple recently turned its App Store and associated top apps the colour red for the world AIDS day. It will be available on Friday, March 24th in 128GB and 256GB models starting at SGD$1218. New Storage Options for iPhone SE The wildly popular iPhone SE has not been forgotten with the wave of new updates, and Apple has raised the storage capacity on the SE to now come in 32GB and 128GB, while keeping the price exactly the same. Hurrah for the increased storage space! New Apple Watch Colours It’s not just the iPad and the iPhone, even the Apple Watch is getting into things. All of the Apple Watch bands, the sport, woven nylon, and Hermès leather, is now selling in new colours. The Nike Sport bands are also now available separately from the Nike+ Watch! The new colours are brighter, a stark contrast from the more muted colours Apple offered last September. Clips – Apple’s New Social Video Sharing App Apple has just announced a new Apple-made app called Clips, which includes features from Snapchat, Instagram, Vine, Prisma, and iMovie, and is a completely separate app from the core Camera app in the iPhone and iPad. The Clips app features a simple photo and video capture interface, but includes a wide array of features, some features being very original, while others… not so original. The main page of the app has a capture screen (square, like Instagram), with Photo, Video, and Library options below it. At the top, there are four options for styling or customizing the video: Live Titles, Filters, Overlays, and Posters. At the very bottom of the screen there is also a timeline, because Apple has designed it in a way that encourages combining a sequence of clips. What are your thoughts on the new offerings Apple has?
